WalkMashatu Camp; A Night Under the Stars

Experience the Thrill of the African Night: Walk by Day, Dream by Starlight

In recent years, “noctourism” —the pursuit of unique night time travel experiences—has captivated adventurers worldwide. Travellers are increasingly seeking destinations that offer immersive after-dark activities, from stargazing in remote locations to nocturnal wildlife encounters. This growing interest reflects a desire to experience the world in a different light—quite literally.

Mashatu Game Reserve invites you to embrace this trend through their WalkMashatu Camp’s “Night Under the Stars” experience. This unique adventure begins with an intimate walking safari, allowing you to connect deeply with the African bush as the day transitions to night. Guided by our expert rangers, you’ll traverse diverse landscapes, observe wildlife in their natural habitats, and gain insights into the intricate ecosystems that thrive under the cover of darkness.

A Walk from Day to Night

After an exhilarating day of exploration, you will return to camp for dinner. Once the stars begin to twinkle in the African sky, the Night Under the Stars experience begins. Departing your lodge after dinner, you’ll embark on a 2-hour night drive, unveiling the mysteries of the nocturnal world—from elusive predators to the quiet rustlings of the bush. The night drive concludes at the WalkMashatu Fly Camp, where you can engage in night photography, take a guided night walk, or simply relax around the campfire with drinks and snacks, sharing stories under the starlit sky.

Sleeping Under the African Sky

The highlight of this experience is drifting off to sleep with the sounds of the wild surrounding you. Uniquely designed tents, positioned in surprise locations, offer comfortable bedding and the option to roll up the sides, allowing you to sleep with the starry sky as your ceiling. In the morning, you’ll enjoy a light breakfast before departing on a dawn game drive, when the bush is at its most active. Plus, a portable shower and loo ensure you have comforts even in the remotest part of the bush.

Availability and Booking

The Night Under the Stars experience is offered throughout the year and can accommodate a maximum of six guests per night. Please note that children under 12 years are not permitted, and those aged 12 to 18 must be accompanied by a parent.

This activity is available to all guests staying at Mashatu’s commercial lodges, as well as those booked at Kolokolo Safari Home (up to six guests), but is not available to guests staying at Shalimpo Safari Home. To ensure availability, advanced booking is recommended.
